The venue at the centre of Richmond's Mad Monday story described the players as respectful guests. That fact sits awkwardly beside the scale of the coverage that followed.
Does that mean the story was automatically overblown? Or were there separate questions about imagery, perception, public standards and how quickly context can disappear once a football story starts travelling?
Which parts of the reporting were based on verified conduct, and which parts depended on interpretation? At what point does repetition make a story appear more serious without adding new evidence?
And how should Richmond supporters separate legitimate scrutiny from a narrative that may have become larger than the event underneath it?
