SEASON 27: Richmond Had Nobody in the 2026 All-Australian Squad. When Does One of the Tiger Cubs Have to Grow Teeth?
Richmond had nobody in the AFL’s 46-player All-Australian squad after its three-win 2026 season. That is hardly a scandal for a young rebuilding side, especially one that spent so much of the year dealing with instability and availability problems.
The more interesting part is what comes next. Richmond has accumulated high draft picks, Rising Star nominations, exciting cameos and plenty of players whose ceiling remains part of the conversation. At some point, though, the rebuild has to produce more than promise.
The question Tiger supporters should be asking is simple: when should one of Richmond’s young players begin to look like genuine top-end AFL talent rather than merely a good developing player?
Does 2027 need to produce an All-Australian? Is that even the right test? Which signs would tell us that a Tiger Cub is beginning to change opposition plans, shape games or separate himself from the competition — and how long can Richmond remain a list of possibilities before one becomes undeniable?
