Richmond Supporters Want Bigger Bodies Down Back. Does the List Actually Need Them?
Richmond’s 2026 backline often looked physically vulnerable. Repeat entries, changing roles and a young side under pressure made the call for bigger bodies down back feel almost automatic.
But that instinct creates a more useful question than simply adding centimetres. Richmond already has several defenders with genuine key-position size. So when the defence looks small, are supporters actually seeing a height problem — or the effects of role continuity, support, entry quality and collective defensive authority?
The question Tiger supporters should be asking is simple: does Richmond really need another big defender, or does it need the defenders already on the list to perform different jobs more reliably?
That changes the list-management test. Which contests genuinely require more size? Which problems begin further up the ground? What disappears if Gibcus, Miller, Balta, Annand and the developing group can settle into a clearer structure — and what still remains unsolved if they do?
