Richmond’s Kids Keep Getting More Time. What Happens When We Compare Their Report Cards With the Rest of the AFL?
Richmond’s young players are getting something every rebuild says it wants to provide: time. More games, more responsibility and more chances to learn at AFL level.
The difficult part is deciding what that time is actually producing. Comparing one young Tiger with one rival after one good or bad afternoon proves very little. Draft position, age, injuries, role continuity, team strength and the job a player is being asked to perform can all distort the picture.
The question Tiger supporters should be asking is simple: are Richmond’s young players converting opportunity into AFL function at a rate that stands up against genuinely comparable players around the competition?
That comparison matters because Richmond cannot measure a rebuild only against Richmond. Other clubs are developing at the same time. So which Tigers are keeping pace, which comparisons are unfair because their development clocks have barely started, and where would a real peer benchmark put pressure on the club’s 2027 development program?
