In April 2024 Blair Hartley, a central figure in building Richmond’s triple-premiership list, was reported as Tasmania’s No.1 list-management target. Brendon Gale was also considering his future as the new club assembled its senior leadership.
Why would a new AFL club look specifically at people shaped by Richmond’s rise? Was the attraction recruiting judgement, list architecture, organisational experience or the ability to build a football department from the ground up?
What would Richmond risk losing if multiple pieces of that institutional knowledge departed together? And which parts of the premiership-era method could actually be transferred to an expansion club rather than simply copied?
