David Rodan played 65 games for Richmond between 2002 and 2006 before continuing his AFL career at Port Adelaide and Melbourne. Long after his playing days, he has remained one of football’s most recognisable personalities, now familiar to a new generation in another role on game day.
Yet Richmond supporters never seem to have fully handed him over. Why do some players remain emotionally attached to a club even when their statistical résumé there is relatively short? Is it performance, personality, timing, joy, memory, or something harder to measure?
