The full RTSSG member feature, Why I still can't forgive Graeme Richmond over sacking Tommy Hafey., opens the deeper investigation behind this Public doorway.

Tom Hafey coached Richmond to four premierships between 1967 and 1974. At the end of 1976, a board vote technically supported his reappointment — yet Hafey still left Punt Road.

How could both things be true? What did the dissenting votes mean to Hafey? Why did Graeme Richmond’s position matter so much? What conversations happened, and which important conversations apparently never did?

Was Hafey effectively sacked, did he resign because trust had broken, or does either description simplify a more complicated rupture?

And how different might Richmond history have looked if the relationship between Hafey and the club’s powerbrokers had survived that moment?

The Public question stops here. Read the full RTSSG member feature.
