Richmond finished 2026 with three wins after five in 2025 and two in 2024. The club has also spoken repeatedly about four-quarter football, defensive stability, stoppage work, front-half football, turnover scoring and development.
So what should actually count as progress in 2027? Is a higher win total enough on its own? What if the Tigers win more games but still lose control of matches in the same ways? What if the ladder barely moves while younger players, defensive shape and ball movement improve?
Which standards should exist before Round 1 rather than being chosen after the season has produced its answer? And what would Richmond need to show by mid-season for supporters to know the rebuild is genuinely moving rather than merely changing shape?
