What Was Richmond Actually Asking Its 2024 Draft Class to Change?
The full RTSSG member feature Tigers' preview: Kids take centre stage, can mid bounce back? starts with a question that is still worth asking.
Richmond entered 2025 with seven top-30 picks and major senior departures. Was the draft class there to provide hope, fill holes immediately, or start changing the shape of the team?
Sam Lalor, Josh Smillie, Taj Hotton, Jonty Faull, Harry Armstrong and Luke Trainor arrived into a side that had just lost experienced talent. Which jobs could reasonably belong to teenagers straight away? Which problems were too large to hand to draftees? And how would Richmond know whether early games represented development, necessity or both?
The point of the Public doorway is not to settle those questions here. It is to identify the evidence, the disturbance and the next question — then leave the synthesis where it belongs: in the full member feature.
