What Does Liam Fawcett’s Delisting Tell Richmond About Armstrong, Faull and Sims?

Richmond confirmed on August 26 that Fawcett would not receive a contract for 2027. He leaves at 21 after eight AFL matches and 12 goals, with seven senior games this season and two separate three-goal performances. Armstrong and Faull have just been extended through 2029, while Sims is already contracted for 2027.

So what exactly has Richmond decided? Has Fawcett’s departure established a clear pecking order among the young key forwards, or are contract timing, list-space value and the different roles of Armstrong, Faull and Sims making the choice more complicated than a simple fourth-versus-third ranking?

What should supporters make of a player who showed enough to earn AFL games, kick goals and attract positive public comments from the club, yet still fell below the retention line?
