Could Rhyan Mansell Become Richmond’s Tagger?

Taggers were once a standard part of AFL football. Richmond’s own history contains versions of the role, and the original feature asks whether the job may be worth reconsidering.

Rhyan Mansell brings speed, endurance, aggression, tackling and a willingness to make opponents uncomfortable. But does having the traits mean Richmond should actually change his role?

Would a dedicated tagging role make Richmond better, or simply take something else away from Mansell’s game? Which opposition midfielders would justify it? And what would Richmond have to build around him for the role to work?

The interesting part is not whether Mansell can annoy an opponent. It is whether Richmond could turn that into a repeatable tactical advantage — and what the trade-offs would be.
