Peter Lane kicked 116 goals for Richmond’s Under-19s in 1980. In the same season, Michael Roach kicked 112 in the seniors and Mark Jackson topped 100 in the reserves. Lane’s century belonged to one of the strangest concentrations of full-forward firepower the club has ever had.
He was only 18. He kicked six goals in the Under-19s second semi-final, another six in the premiership, and finished his two Richmond Under-19 seasons with 186 goals from 40 games. Yet that premiership would also be his last match for the Tigers.
The senior ledger therefore says something that looks almost impossible beside those numbers: Peter Lane never played a senior game for Richmond.
