Twenty years outside finals had made drift dangerously familiar. Yet by the middle of the 1960s Richmond was changing grounds, standards, recruitment, coaching direction and the way football decisions were made behind the scenes.
Ray Dunn and Graeme Richmond sit near the centre of that story, but this is not a simple great-men retelling. The real puzzle is how administration, coaching and player development began working as one football operation rather than as separate pieces.
