When Richmond Applies Pressure, What Should Happen Next?

Richmond’s 2026 pressure problem was not as simple as effort. The Tigers could chase, tackle and win hard contests, yet too many possessions still escaped cleanly enough for the opposition to take control.

That is a different failure from refusing to work. It suggests the important moment may come after the first pressure action — when spacing, support and the next decision determine whether effort actually changes the field.

Tim Taranto’s contested work made the contradiction impossible to ignore. Richmond could win difficult football and still fail to convert it into territory, time or scoreboard pressure.

Season 27 therefore carries a sharper test than “work harder”. If the first Richmond pressure action succeeds, what should the next possession look like?
