What Must Richmond’s Midfield Prove Once Nankervis Is No Longer the Safety Net?

The full RTSSG member feature, The Midfield Has to Learn to Win Without Nank, is the starting point for this Public investigation.

Toby Nankervis is 32 and contracted through 2027 after missing a long stretch of 2026 with a severe hamstring injury. Richmond has been pursuing experienced ruck support while developing younger options.

If the ruck environment becomes more stable, what does that remove from the midfield’s list of explanations? What must Richmond’s onball group do when the tap is lost, when the first possession is rushed or when the opposition changes its stoppage setup?

Can a new ruckman solve the personnel question without solving what happens around him? Which midfield habits should become independent of Nankervis, and what would prove that Richmond is learning to control stoppages rather than merely survive them?

The member feature follows the evidence further and resolves the question. Read the full RTSSG investigation here.
