Richmond wants to play faster in 2027. That sounds straightforward while the game is open and the opposition is still scrambling.
The harder version arrives a few possessions later. The Tigers reach half-forward, the dangerous space has disappeared, defenders are connected and the obvious attacking picture is gone. At that point, more speed does not automatically create more danger.
That matters because a rebuilding side can look as though its ball movement is improving while the game is offering exactly the conditions it prefers. Stronger opponents will not keep offering those conditions. They will recover, organise and force Richmond to prove its football works after the first opening closes.
Season 27 therefore carries a different test. Richmond is not only trying to move the ball faster; it is trying to build an attacking method that survives opposition planning.
