In 2011 Richmond did something unusually valuable: it described its own football failures before anybody knew a premiership era was coming.

This was not hindsight written after 2017. Richmond was still outside the finals, still carrying the scars of famous draft misses and still trying to rebuild the machinery behind recruiting and development.

That gives the old diagnosis a different value now. Fifteen years later, Richmond has lived through a dynasty, watched that team age and committed enormous draft capital to another generation. The club can no longer judge the 2011 diagnosis only by pointing at three premierships.
