Richmond Wants Faster Ball Movement in 2027. Who Has to Become the Extra Man?

Richmond’s 2026 ball-movement problems were obvious in the numbers: too little possession, too few marks, too little territory and too little uncontested football. But simply telling players to kick or handball faster risks mistaking an outcome for the mechanism that creates it.

A player cannot use the ball quickly if Richmond has not created a usable option ahead of him. That makes the important 2027 question less about disposal speed and more about structure: where does the free player come from, and which part of the team has to create him?

If Richmond wants genuinely faster football, what movement, rotation or numerical advantage has to happen before the ball carrier even receives possession?
