Richmond Has Mykelti Lefau Until 2028. Is He a Bridge — or Part of the Building?
Richmond has committed Mykelti Lefau through 2028 after a 2026 season in which he led the club's goalkicking, competed in the air, pressured at ground level and provided relief ruck work.
That looks like a simple reward for performance until Richmond's young-forward timeline is added. Lynch remains for 2027. Armstrong, Faull and Sims all need meaningful development evidence. Forward spots, aerial roles and second-ruck minutes cannot be handed to everybody at once.
So is Lefau the mature bridge that lets Richmond test the young forwards more clearly, or does his reliability risk taking the very evidence windows the rebuild needs? And if he is still valuable when the structure improves, is 'bridge' actually too small a description?
