Did You Know? Richmond Played the First Grand Final Under the Page–McIntyre System

In 1931, Jack Dyer’s first senior season, the VFL adopted the Page–McIntyre finals system — and Richmond immediately became part of its first dramatic test.


The Tigers beat Geelong in the Second Semi-Final and advanced directly to the Grand Final. Geelong then used the new double chance to survive, return and beat Richmond for the premiership. The club whose secretary helped usher in the new architecture was also one of the first clubs to experience exactly what it was designed to do.
