Kye Annand will turn 23 in October, which usually pushes a young player toward a different AFL standard. But Annand’s football clock has an unusual second hand: he has been a permanent key defender for barely a season.
Richmond therefore has two ages to judge. One is the mature body and senior-football experience of a player who has spent years around men’s football. The other is the positional education of a 200-centimetre defender still learning the repeated decisions that come with owning the role.
