Bill Morris is easy to place in a Richmond record book. He won the 1948 Brownlow Medal. The clean line of an honour board makes the rest of the life look almost secondary.

It was not. Morris belonged to a generation shaped by war, country sport and a very different football world before his Richmond career made him one of the League’s most admired players.

What do we miss when Bill Morris is remembered first as Richmond’s 1948 Brownlow Medallist and only afterwards as the man who had to reach that season?
